The need for greater focus by tech developers on usability, ergonomics and functionality of AT for users

VisionBridge’s collaboration with leading distributor Sight and Sound Technology continues to highlight the need for greater focus by tech developers on usability, ergonomics and functionality of AT for users. This is now borne out by researchers Eugenie Golubova (lead author) and Dr Sandra Stark (Aston University) on the completion of an excellent study entitled “Design considerations for the ideal low vision aid: insights from de‐brief interviews following a real‐world recording study.”

Sandra comments – “When developing a wearable low vision aid, our team quickly realised that the real user needs for these devices are not understood and researched well. This bears the danger of designing technology that doesn’t map onto people’s lives and requirements. We hence conducted a study with 32 visually impaired volunteers to find out what it is that people who live with low vision really need from future sight aids. This is the second part of this work.”
